FAMILY AND CONSUMER SCIENCE COURSES

COURSE TITLE                                     Consumer Education

COURSE DESCRIPTION                                    The focus is on consumerism skills in all areas of life.  The Financial Planning Program (budgeting, credit, savings, and investing) will be used.  Understanding Taxes materials, checking accounts and insurance will be studied.  Students will use decision making and problem solving skills.

COURSE DESCRIPTION                                    The focus is on nutritional meal planning and food preparation practices.  Students will learn how to cook healthy for a variety of diets throughout the life cycles, using the Food Pyramid and Guidelines for Americans, which includes weight management, in food preparation and will practice food preparation in labs.

COURSE DESCRIPTION                                    The focus of this course is on the growth and development of an individual from conception to age six.  Students will study pre-natal development, adoption, pregnancy, birth, and post-natal development.  Parenting and childcare skills will be studied by a simulation activity.  Strengthening the function of the family and ways to improve family relationships will also be covered.

COURSE DESCRIPTION                                    This course is designed for seniors only to prepare them for life after high school and for entrance into the adult world.  Topics discussed are personal qualities, single and married life skills which include decision making, problem solving, goal setting, money management, communication, household management and  relationships.
